The Briar County Wolves are barely a blip on the high school sports radar until a new coach arrives in their tiny backwoods county.  Changes start happening practically overnight not the least of which is a strange influx of new transfer students showing up out of nowhere and wanting to play for the team.  In no time at all, the Wolves are out of last place and well on their way to a State championship!  Not everyone on the team however, is happy about their sudden rise to fame, especially not the team's former best player Brax Henderson, who is now spending more time warming the bench than on the ice making plays.  Brax can't help but wonder just who is this mysterious coach who never stays at any one job for more than a few years?  Who are all these new players that seem to keep only to themselves and just what the hell goes on at these special coaching sessions that only certain players are required to attend?  Brax's questions continue to pile up but as long as the team is winning he's willing to let it go, that is, until his beloved former coach's body is found deep in the Kentucky backwoods and his own teammate and best friend Maddox suddenly goes missing...
